Soho Bath House
Masters research project, London School of Architecture, 2016.
Public baths were once a place for social gatherings in our cities – not only for relaxation and sport but for politics, discussion, eroticism, hedonism, and crime. The aim of this project was to establish a non-commercial public space within Soho, an area of London whose consumerist and office-based work lifestyles exploit both the human body and the fabric of the urban grain. Envisaged in part as a forum-like proposal it has taken inspiration from the Roman bathing typology and shall allow people to rediscover old traditions whilst providing a retreat for Soho’s workforce in which to purely relax, meet or share thoughts, these processes becoming accentuated through the benefits of water.
